We offer
professionally run fishing trips on Lake Victoria and the
Nile river in Murchison Falls National Park. Nile perch between
10-80kg in weight, the largest fresh water game fish in the
world, are the main catch on the lake
Method
of fishing we
use Trolling with lures at Lake Victoria. All the necessary
fishing tackle for nile perch trolling on the lake is provided
but anglers are free to bring their own equipment. Trips can
be for the day, no previous experience required, or for longer
for the keener, serious fisherman.
At Murchison
Falls National Park fish are caught on live bait or with casting
lures including Nile perch and various species of cat fish.
There are also a large variety of smaller species, (used as
live bait), obtained by spinning including tiger fish. Fishing
is either from the river bank or from a boat at the base of
the falls area.
This fishing is generally done over a few days and can be
very exciting but it does require some experience and also
a certain level of fitness due to the access conditions. We
encourage the catch and release policy for all our trips.

Nile Perch. From approximately 10-80kg in weight. The largest

main method of fishing used. You can also catch tillapia using
fly fishing techniques. Tillapia are about 1-2kg in weight.

(there can be a certain amount of spray when the lake is rough),

a good knowledge of the lake as well as fishing.

for before disembarkation. Lures are between 15-20USD each

What
to bring on board
We suggest you bring as much sun protection as possible -
hats, sunglasses, creams as it can be quite hot out on the
lake. Strops or sandals are a good idea as you may well get
wet feet - especially getting on and off the boat! Insect
repellent is a good idea. A camera if you’d like to
capture “the big fish” on film and a pair of binoculars
if you are keen on birdlife. Light daywear such as T shirts
and shorts are normally fine but we recommend a sweater or
light jacket in case the weather is a little cool. Obviously
if you are staying overnight you will need your personal belongings
- clothes, medication, toiletries etc for the duration of
the stay. If you are a smoker - take your stocks with you
- shops are few and far between!

Nile Fishing On Lake Victoria
We meet in Entebbe at UWEC (Zoo) where safe parking is available
and it is a short walk to the pier from where we depart/return.
Transport is provided to and from the jetty from local Entebbe
and Kampala hotels upon request.
Day Trips
They normally depart between 8-9.00 am and return between
5-6.00pm from the pier. Fishing is done around local islands
about a 45 minute boat trip from Entebbe. The areas fished
will depend upon the weather and how the fish are biting.
At certain times of the year the lake can be very rough with
large swells and so then we tend to utilise the sheltered
bays for fishing. Lunch will be sandwiches, hot dogs, salad
or similar served on board the boat moored in a shady spot
in an island bay. Beers, mineral water & sodas are available
on board.
Overnight Trips
The overnight trips are currently accommodated at a local
rustic but comfortable camp on Bugala island in the Sseses,
and include accommodation and all meals whilst on the island.
A cash bar facility is available at the camp serving beers,
sodas and some spirits and wine. If clients have particular
preferences please check with us beforehand regarding availability.
Bottled water is also available or clients can bring their
own. A generator ensures the camp is lit at night between
7-10pm but we recommend that each person brings his own torch
too. Ablution facilities are available with flushing toilets
and self contained showers.

Fishing
at Murchison Falls National Park
is currently done in the area at the base of the falls. The
fishing is either from the rocks on the bank of the river
or slightly lower down stream in the pools from a boat. Access
to the fishing spots is either by boat from a point further
down stream or by walking down the gorge to the river from
the top of the falls. It’s a steep climb back up and
hence most people tend to go fishing equipped for the day
to avoid climbing up in the heat of the day.
There
are several lodges available for accommodation in the park
– which one we utilise will depend upon the clients
requirements. Sambiya River lodge is most often used - due
to it’s close proximity to the falls area – about
15 minutes drive. It is set in the forest a short distance
away from the river and have stone rondavel rooms with en
suite facilities with hot water heated by solar. Bedding and
towels are provided but clients should bring their own torches
(and batteries).
