Mabira forest lies 54kms east fo Kampala
on the main Jinja to Kampala highway.It offers visitors a
tropical experience on their doorsteps.The forest center is
based at Najjembe village. Visitors can enjoy forest walks,follow
a cycle trail,or relax, and have a picnic lunch at forest
center. Accommodation in bandas(round traditional African
huts) and refreshments are available.
Mpanga forest lies 37kms west of Kampala
on the road to Masaka.It is a compact forest offering a cathedral
like atmosphere in which to enjoy fabulous bird watching.The
main forest center in 500 m from the main high way and marked
by a decorative sign .Visitors are welcome to picnic or camp
at the forest center and follow any of the way marked trails
to the south of the river.
Budongo forest is about 3 hrs drive north
west of Kampala en route to murchison falls national park.It
is the largest Mahogany forest in East Africa and home of
the largest population of chimpanzees in Uganda.
Kalinzu forest lies 10km west of Ishaka
on the Mbarara Kasese high way.The forest is signed from Butare
trading center.It is an ideal stop over en route to queen
elizabeth national park.The forest offers fabulous forest
walks along the ridges and river valleys of the rift valley
escarpment. Discover the legends of the mysterious hills and
camp in a peaceful forest glade.
